About Gradblogger
GradBlogger is a resource created by me, Dr. Chris Cloney, to empower academics to build profitable online businesses using blogging, podcasting, and video so they can change the world with their research & experience!
So who am I?
Some of you who have seen me around the twitter, instagram, self-employed, or academic blogging communities may know me as “That crazy guy that talks about fire & explosions”.Â
Or you may know me as the guy who always seems too busy to do simple things like get proper profile pictures – so he has to use ones of his family (Exhibit Right)!
I started blogging about my academic research at www.myDustExplosionResearch.com in September 2016 in which month I had exactly 14 visitors…
I wish I could say it got better quickly – but as you know or will find out, blogging can be a long road.
Why have I been busy?
Fortunately, after some pivoting in my blog direction, about 60,000 words of created content, and some hopes and prayers, my blog started to “take-off” in mid-2017. I now get 4000 page views per month or 130 per day (which is pretty good for a blog about industrial explosion prevention!).
After this, 2018 has been a roller coaster building my business, enhancing my research, and connecting with companies and people in my field.
On April 16 I successfully defended my PhD thesis, on April 18 I incorporated DustEx Research Ltd., on April 20 I handed in my final thesis submission (which was accepted!), and on April 23 I flew to Chicago to launch my business at the largest North American trade show in my industry.
At the trade show, I launched the worlds first blogging database tracking, reporting, and generating lessons learned from fires and explosions in powder handling industries globally at www.DustSafetyScience.com.
Working with companies in my field to advertise their safety equipment and services, building the incident database, consulting on research, and of course blogging to increase education and awareness in my field, are now my full time job through my own company – and it all started back in 2016 when I created my GradBlog!
What can you expect?
My goal is to help you get started:
- Creating content online
- Building a community around your research
- Choosing and achieving big goals to disrupt your field, and
- Developing resources to change the world with your experience
I also want to show you how to create a business and get paid from your blogging efforts. For me, money is the resource necessary to magnify the impact I can have world-wide. For you, it might be to support your family, leave your current position, or build a business after graduating!
Whatever your motivation, I am here to help – click one of the buttons below to learn more and get started on your own GradBlogging journey!
